Fall is coming.
In Kiel, you can literally feel that. And you can see it:

Sailing Aphrodite - A Perfect End of Summer

On Monday, my wife and I were privilege to a nice little event that would mark the perfect ending of this year's summer.
Captain Aent Kingma of the Brigg 'Aphrodite' was leaving the Baltic Sea to take the ship to its winter quarter in the Netherlands. And we were invited!
It was a nice little trip from Sartorikai in Kiel through the locks at Kiel-Holtenau, where we met up with the 'Alexander v. Humboldt II', which was a pretty amazing sight, to the harbor of Rendsburg.
Rendsburg is about halfway through the Kiel-Canal, so it took about 6 hours to get there.

This trip aboard the 'Aphrodite' really was a perfect ending for the summer. A summer that included lots of sailing, lot of ocean and water, and making new friends.

I like Kiel. Part 4.

Last Sunday my wife and I took the harbor ferry over to Kiel's "East Coast" to enjoy the last warm rays of sun this summer.
There was a strong wind blowing which made the clouds paint really dramtic images in the sky.
It was a wonderful day with blue skies, white clouds, sailing ships and the sea.

Pfingsten, Teil 1 - Samstag.

Samstag zu Beginn des diesjährigen Pfingstwochenendes Besuch bekommen vom Bruder meiner Frau samt Freundin.
Tolles Wetter und Hunger, also ab in den Schlemmermarkt Freund und mit Grillgut eindecken. Auf dem Rückweg merken, dass wir doch sehr viel eingekauft haben.
Viel zuviel.
Ein weiterer hungriger Magen wird benötigt, also Steffi (meine Nichte, zweiten Grades, studiert in Kiel) anrufen und fragen, ob sie vorbeikommen möchte.
"Bin am Strand, wollte noch ein bißchen bleiben. Ach, Ihr grillt? Dann kann ich auch früher."
Wieder zuhause, Grill anwerfen, Kartoffelsalat fertig gemacht und dann los:

Im Anschluss Verdauungsspaziergang an der Kiellinie machen und Zeugen werden des wahrhaftig sensationell schlechtesten Anlegemanövers, das der Kieler Hafen je gesehen haben dürfte:
Eine geschlagene Halbe Stunde laboriert die "Freya" herum, bis sie endlich so nah an den Anleger kommt, dass die Passagiere von Bord gehen können...

Sensationslüsternes Warten auf die potentielle Kollision des Raddampfers mit der Pier , der Himmel wird zusehends dunkler, Blitze sind in drei Richtungen zu erkennen und ein leichtes Donnern lässt sich ebenfalls bereits vernehmen, also los nach Hause.
Ein guter Start in das Pfingstwochenende.

'Falckenstein'

Freitag Abend beim Teamabend eines meiner Teams im Blauen Engel gewesen.
Schlepper "Falckenstein" ist mit Schwung gegen die Kaimauer gedonnert. Hat ein mittleres Erdebeben verursacht.
Mein Drink hat gewackelt.

Playing with Photos. Part 2.

This was taken in the summer of 2008 at a barbeque on the beach of Heidkate (Germany). I just recently re-discovered the original version of it and thought I could turn it into something different. It really has an eerie, almost ghostly feel to it now, I think. I like it.

These two (above and below) I took the day before yesterday in the final hour of work. The sun was setting behind our office building (Kiel, Germany) and painted the clouds over the city with really great colors.

I shot the photos from the 10th floor and revamped them with the Camera+ App on my iPhone.

This is our IT dude. He's cool. 'Nuff said.
