Abandoned Nuclear Weapons Depot

Embedded right into the landscape somewhere in northern Germany lies this object almost entirely forgotten by history.
It used to be an American SAS (Special Ammunition Site).
These facilities were used to store, guard and service different types of nuclear weapons. In this facility, among others, W-52-warheads for MGM-29 Seargant short-range ballistic missiles were stored.

The site was built in 1960 and was guarded in two "rings", of which the outer ring alone was guarded by a batallion of soldiers.

When the American troops left in late 1991, they didn't leave much, obviusly. The buildings have been left, but with no interior left whatsoever.
But the area combined with its history sure makes for a very interesting trip and a great photo location!

Abandoned Hospital (Part 11)

Will I ever get tired of this place?
No. Not as long as there are still some rooms left that I haven't yet found or seen.
Today, my wife and I went there with her brother and his girlfriend. While they went into the first building (the one with the tissue samples and the auditorium), I took the shortest way down to the basement of the second building...it was dark down there...

Okay, that last one wasn't in the basement but on the top floor, but I liked the industrial look of it :)

Abandoned Navy Building (Part 6)

There was one basement and a couple of rooms left in the abandoned Navy administration building that I wanted to take some HDR photos of, so today I used the fantastic weather and went down there.
The basement was really dark, so I had to work with rather long exposure times, but some of the photos came out pretty well, I think.
Also, I never had realised that the stairwells in this building are really beautiful.
Anyway, here's today's loot:
