Tour Report: Agricultural Seeds Center

The second place we had on our list for my wife's birthday tour in 2020 was only about five minutes away from the old cemetery we had visited first.
Here, too, there was a parking lot right outside the door, so to speak. However, the building - a former seeds station - is surrounded by a fairly large open space. It is therefore almost impossible to enter unnoticed. So we looked for a point on the path surrounding the site where the building was between us and the residential area opposite, so that we at least had the feeling that we wouldn't be seen immediately as we walked across the field.
When we arrived at the building, we immediately saw an open door through which we were granted access.
Given the exposed location and the fact that the location is relatively well-known, I wasn't expecting too much - but we were really pleasantly surprised. The vandalism was limited and we found many things that indicated the former use of the building: Magazines on agriculture and genetics, files on plant breeding and cross-breeding, various specialist literature, packing materials and a large quantity of coffee sacks.
Even a few technical devices had survived the long time of abandonment.
So after the old cemetery, this was the second location in a row where you could discover an incredible number of exciting details. Although many of them are not really relevant from a photographic point of view, they offer a great insight into the work that has been carried out on this site for almost a century.
Here, too, we took plenty of time to take it all in before making our way back to the car.

Tour Report: Community Center P.

Early in April of 2019, we embarked on a short tour to Eastern Germany to check out a few abandoned places. The first spot that we explored that day was an abandoned community center. It is located right next to an abandoned castle, which we had already visited a few times in the past. The community center, however, somehow eluded us for a couple of years - until that one sunny Sunday morning.

The place was easy enough to access - after we had parked the car, we just had to cross the street and walk into the building - no signs or fences tried to keep us out, and the door was open. Inside, we were greeted by a typical hall from socialist East Germany. The most striking feature was of course the old piano on the stage. We were surprised that it was still there and in - relatively - good condition. Generally, the place looked alright for at least two decades of abandonment. Of course, the vandals have had their share, but there weren't too many graffiti, so we were actually able to get a few nice photos.

Next to the main room, there was only the restroom and a small hallway, so we didn't need too much time to check everything out before we got back to the cars and drove off to the next location.

Socialist Recreation Home M.

In February of this year, my wife and I went on a three-day tour together with our friend Freddy (Nordgriller Urbex).
The main location that we had planned for this trip was an old power station - a huge place with vast halls and tons of rusty steel!
Of course, we had checked for a couple of spots on the way south to keep us occupied during the five-hour drive to the hotel. The first spot, however, was not on any of our lists. There was a traffic jam on the highway, so we took the back roads to get around it. And as always, we kept our eyes open. It's one of the things you learn pursuing this hobby - keep your eyes open, you never know what's around the next corner.
This is especially true for Eastern Germany. You can drive around the countryside and are bound to bump into a couple of lost places.
It was no different with this spot. We were driving through a small village when suddenly we spotted a beautiful old wooden house with an overgrown garden. By the time we realized what we had seen, we were around the corner, so we stopped, turned around and went back.
We were not really sure at first. The house did still look good from the outside, and there were fairly new trash on the premises. It was right in the middle of the village, but I got out of the car snd went for a quick check. The fence had been trampled down some time ago and the front door was open!

So we went in. There had obviously some renovation measures been going on. Especially the bathrooms had been neatly refurbished, but it seems as though whoever had been paing for this had either lost interest or his money...
