Revisit - The Abandoned Rubber Factory

It was a nice Sunday morning and we had planned to visit a beautiful new location.
This was our luck. We chose the only day that had the harbor fest going on with literally thousands of people attending and passing by the designated entrance into the building...
So after some time trying to decide wether to risk getting caught we went for the option of a revisit in the old rubber factory which is only about a mile away.

So after a short walk we made our way into the factory halls. I thought it was a great opportunity to get some pictures of things that I'd missed the first time around.

The End? - The Abandoned Rubber Factory (Part 5)

These are the last pictures from the abandoned rubber factory.
As I've said, due to the nitrosamine contamination, all potential investors have declined, and parts of the complex have been demolished. The only thing that's keeping these buildings from the same fate is monument protection...which is a weak protection once powerful investors with a bunch of money need the grounds for a new project...

There is nothing left to tell about the abandoned rubbe factory, so I'll just let the photos speak for themselves.
I hope I'll have another chance for a visit sometime soon.

Contaminated Walls - The Abandoned Rubber Factory (Part 3)

The historic factory buildings are beautifully located right at the city's inland harbor.
Next to the rubber combs, the factory also produced rubber casting molds and also mouthpieces for clarinets by traditional production methods with a lot of manual labor.
In 2009, the company moved the entire production and the about 200 employees to a new, modern facility south of the city. The company also informed its clients that the rubber comb production was to be discontinued for economic reasons. Because of the high demand though, production was started again only a few months later.
The old factory buildings, that were a home to the company for 150 years, are in part placed under landmark ststus and monument protection, but the further use is unclear due to the nitrosamine contamination of the walls.

Nitrosamine Walls - The Abandoned Rubber Factory (Part 2)

After my business trip, I am finally able to continue the story about the rubber company.
As I've mentioned in my last post, the company in question was founded in 1856.
In 1870, a company producing similar goods was founded in an another part of the region and took over the "Rubber-Comb-Company" in 1929.
After the war, the facilities of the new parent company were almost completely destroyed, so soon after the war the production was relocated into the buildings of the subsidiary.
The rubber combs produced in this facility were appreciated by hairdressers worldwide.
