On the final evening of our four-day tour through central Germany together with Freddy from Nordgriller Urbex back in late November of 2016, we were having a nice dinner and discussing what could be possible spots for the way back on the next day.
We had a few possible spots, but pretty soon it became clear that the old Sanatorium in the Harz mountains was the preferred option - although it meant a detour of about 200 kilometers...
But Freddy had never been there before, and in the three months after my wife's and my last visit, we had gotten an appetite again...
So my wife, who was driving and thereby also the final decision maker, said that she'd drive the detour if we tried to get home during daylight. And it was a done deal.
We informed our friend Jens up at the sanatorium (Lost Place Erlebniscamp) that we'd drop by the next morning and went to bed at a reasonable time to get an early start.
We arrived at the sanatorium at around 9:30 in the morning and were greeted with fresh coffee in the beautiful morning sun.
After the coffee and some storytelling, we went on to explore the old sanatorium. Just like everytime, it felt like visiting an old friend, and that particular morning, this old friend was in the best of moods - the light was just perfect, and we did spend a couple of hours in there before joining Jens for another cup of coffee.
We left the mountain a little later that we's planned, but it was still reasonable and we did - almost - make it home during daylight ;)
