Repair Factory for Agricultural Machines

It was one of those moments when you're on a tour, just on the road between two location and suddenly, someone in the car yells "Look!", because there's an old chimney sticking up somewhere near, and of course, you go check it out.
In this case, it proved to be a great success, because we found an old industrial area.

Research about this object brought to light that this was the site of a former repair factory for agricultural machines (short LIW).
Here is some information:
The task of the workers in agriculture and food industry of the GDR was to provide the people with quality food and the industry with raw materials from its own agricultural production. This was possible only by the "socialist intensification" of production and the introduction of industry standards for production methods in agriculture.
A major aspect of this system was the implementation ofagricultural repair works (LIW) and the county organization for agricultural machinery (short KfL).
The LIW’s were directly subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and food industry. They had replacement stock for the required spare parts and assembly lines and had contractual relationships with the KfL of each district and were responsible for the specialized basic repair of agricultural technology.
The tasks of the LIW were varied. In some transmissions were repaired, others were exclusively responsible for the repair of motors Russian design.
This particular LIW was tasked with repairing various types of East German motors.

Maison D.

As far back as the 8th century, a Slavic rampart was located on an island at the junction of two rivers. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1127, which makes the castle the oldest secular building in Pomerania. In 1840, the island was used as a location for a mansion built by a Prussian noble family. In 1881, ownership of the mansion passed to a different family which lived on the premises until the expropriation in 1945 after World War II. From 1945 until 1986, the mansion was used as a boarding school by the GDR.

Maison T.

It took me some time to find this place.
I had seen some photos from the inside and they were really spectecular because they showed a hall of mirrors with a grand piano.
So I went on to look for information, but there was hardly anything to be found, so I literally looked at photos of all abandoned mansions in that particular part of Germany (and there are a lot of them).
I couldn't find any inside photos on the web that matched the ones I knew so there was no possibility to connect outside and inside shots to a certain place. Until I looked at the windows.
On the inside photos I knew, I could see the windows and while looking through a bunch of outside pictures of various mansions, one of those caught my attention, because the form of the windows matched that of the windows I had seen.
So I continued my research in that direction and I really had found the place. A couple of months later I was in the area and of course, I went on a little exploration.
I wasn't disappointed.

Psychiatric Hospital W. (Part 3)

Alright, here is the third and final post with photos from my first visit to the old hospital.
I really have to say, we got lucky right at the end.
The guys I was there with were already calling me to get back to the car. I asked them if they had found the pathology, and they said no. Then I said, I found a paper that clearly said that there is a pathology here and I am not leaving until we found it.
So we went looking and eventually found it in an adjacent building.
It wasn't really spectacular, but it was still nice, because the dissecting table and the body preservation units were still there and in pretty good condition.

Here are the photos.

Psychiatric Hospital W. (Part 2)

Here is the second load of photos I took at the abandoned hospital during my first vist.
First visit? Yes! Last weekend, my wife and I had her brother and his girlfriend visit us, and together we went on a little tour, which led us once more to the old hospital.

But since I want to keep this blog in chronological order, you'll just have to be patient until I've posted the remaining locations I have visited in the meantime.
Or you can check my website from time to time to see if I've updated the gallery :)

Anyway, here's the next couple of photos.

Psychiatric Hospital W.

Okay, this was not originally built as a psychiatric hospital, but it was used as one during the last 6 years of itsoperation.
Plus, "psychiatric hospital" sounds much better than just "hospital" ;)

There is not much to find out about thie hospital, but here's what I could find about its history.
The main house of the hospital was opened with 100 beds in 1909 after a construction time of about two years. It was a very modern facitlity at the time, especially concerning the surgical professions.
Next to the main house, a house for disinfection and a house for the seperate accommodation of highly infectious patients had been built as well as a mortuary with a pathology.

In 1939, the city opened a new hospital, but it was used as a military hospital by the air force, so this old hospital remained the most important one for the city concerning the surgical disciplines. Also the city's main emergency room was located here.

Only from 2005 until 2011, this hospital was used as a psychiatric ward, mainly for the treatment of addictions.

Here are the first couple of photos.
